Reshma S. Ruia

Reshma Ruia is a writer based in Manchester, England. Born in India and brought up in Rome and London, she considers herself a hybrid with very portable roots. Something Black in the Lentil Soup is her first novel. It has received very favourable reviews in The Times, The Guardian, The Edinburgh book festival etc; The novel is a sly, satirical look at the misadventures of a middle-aged male caught between conflicting temptations and cultures. She is the author of Something Black in the Lentil Soup. Her second novel, A Mouthful of Silence was shortlisted for the 2014 SI Leeds Literary Prize.  Her poetry and short stories have appeared in anthologies and on BBC Radio 4.


She is working on her second novel, which again disects the male psyche. The second novel is much darker in tone and is due to be finished this year.
