When a teenage girl, Aastha, is gang-raped in a small town in the 1970's, the crime creates a cascade of events that become part of the town itself. Aastha is forced to marry one of her rapists when it is discovered that she is pregnant. Years later, when Aastha lies dying, her son Prayag finally discovers the reality of his parents' lives and his birth. He must then race against time, venturing into a violent communal riot to fulfill his mother's last wish. In doing so, he comes up against his own prejudices and emotions and discovers a relationship he never knew he wanted.
