The story of the daughters of Calcutta: one born to a wealthy and cultured family of the Bohra Muslim community that still practices female circumcision; the other born to a loving but penniless beggar. Their lives became inextricably linked when the time comes to circumcise the Muslim girl and we follow their fate into three continents.   
A sensitively written, multi-layered account of a minority community and the plight of the indigent people on the streets of Calcutta.  Although it does not shy away from the tragic, it is ultimately a book with a big heart and another perspective on the tools that are needed to survive with grace and meaning.
