This is a collection of short stories about Ranthambhore, its forest, and history. The stories are based on contemporary accounts of real experiences of the author while he visited and lived in Ranthambhore between 2002 and 2012.
It is informed by the records of others as well. While this book is a collection of stories about particular individuals or aspects of Ranthambhore, the constant theme running through all these stories is of the need to conserve India’s wilderness and wildlife. It is not an academic or scientific analysis of the problems faced by India’s tigers and other wildlife but it does often use scientology as a reference point. Throughout the stories, the narrative draws the reader’s attention to the plight of our wildlife and environment and the cause of saving a species from extinction.
The book is also a refreshing look at aspects of tiger behaviour that have not been explored before. For example, the discovery made by the author himself, of a male tiger bringing up two orphaned cubs.
Finally, it is documentation, told in the form of stories, of one of India’s most beautiful National Parks and its pristine and unique landscape.
