The Nehruvians
ISBN:345645678

This work deals with the ideas of  Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, what they represented and a study of the people who represented those ideas, we collectively call ‘Nehruvian’. The context of the study is largely Indian politics but it does not confine itself to that alone. Foreign Policy, the impact of economic regulations as well as reforms and the engagement of personalities - with the world beyond India - make this book a broad study. The choice of subjects also reflect an argument within Nehruvian ideas, as each is examined in detail. Therefore, the summaries to each chapter also underline what Nehruvian thought does not mean, its various ruptures and internal fissures and the consequences that has had for India.
• Losing Nehru • Feroze Gandhi and the Spirit of Independence • ‘Naked, Hungry, Masses’ • Atal Behari Vajpayee; Prodigal Nehruvian or Fascist Laureate? • The Quiet Death of The National Herald • What was VP Singh? • India’s Foreign Policy – The End of Bandung • Romesh Thapar and the Intellectual in Politics • The New Economic Policy 1991 – A Nehruvian Obituary? • The Congress Party Today – Conversations with Nehru’s Ghost
