A race to reclaim an ancient Indian artifact set against the Afghan wars between India, Pakistan and the West.  
Three Americans meet at Tara Pandey’s party in Delhi and can’t see the tsunami coming.    Already Soviet troops are being deployed in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Don Kolchek arrives in Delhi to announce that he’s the first to decipher the Indus Valley script on an ancient Harappan seal. When Jody Curran leaves Delhi on her travels, she is wearing it around her neck, assuming it to be a cheap copy.  Mike finds out that Jody's seal is the missing treasure and follows her to Pakistan. But Captain Avinash of Indian Military Intelligence wants Mike's Pakistani uncle, Spinda – a mujahideen commander -- to provide intelligence on the war in Afghanistan.   
Mike, meanwhile, is wanted in the US, Nepal and now in India as well. On the run, Mike and Jody’s destinies seem to be taking them straight into Afghanistan – into the heart of the turmoil of the Soviet occupation.  And what of the missing Harappan seal?
