The Fatwa Girl

The Fatwa Girl is an unusual story set in modern day Pakistan. Honest, courageous, relevant and written by a Pakistani author with humanity and gentleness.  It begins with a young man's lament that he was not permitted to offer prayers for the girl he once loved. She has blown herself to bits. No Muslim is allowed to pray for the soul of one who has committed suicide. 

The young man then traces the past that paints a poignant picture of a society mired in its hypocricy, trapped in its feudalism, caught in a time warp that brings a beautiful and open girl to such a violent end. The two were meant to live and love together, but the sectarian divide plunged them into a world of power and politics, intrigue and corruption in a country that has been called the most dangerous nation in the world.

The Fatwa Girl is a story of love and adventure, humour and poetry, sex, suspense and salvation, and gives insight into Pakistan from the birth of a nation to the death of Benazir Bhutto, the Taliban and suicide bombers determined in their horrific mission of death and destruction.
