Other Side of The Table

Other side of the table has been written in the form of letters spanning approximately eight years.

 

A lovely romantic book, simple and evocative, it takes you through the life of a young girl just stepping into med school, her growth as a person, forays into love and lust, marriage, and choosing to become a surgeon despite societal pressure n opposition from colleagues.

 

Running parallel is the story of a man, who has just started specializing in surgery and turns into a hot shot surgeon only to end up on the operating table with brain tumor. The book ends with the man's voice and excitement that the girl is finally coming to live with him despite the fact that her divorce is not through and that this is unheard of in India.

But undeniable in the letters is the affection, anger, pain and trust they have for each other. It tugs at the heart as one shares their deepest pain and the other tries to talk of mundane things to take the focus away from the tragedy.
